Vote for Toad On Fire on Steam Greenlight!

Post by ecxjoe »

Hey guys!

It's been a lot of work, and I thought it was worth taking a shot on Steam Greenlight.

Check it out here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/ ... =938296974.

If you think it's great, please vote! If not, then don't feel obligated to or anything. I also appreciate honest feedback.

Yes. This game is programmed in Freebasic. I've been posting updates occasionally as the game progressed. It's mostly complete now, so the trailer is a good representation of the final product. I plan to clean things up, add some more polish, maybe add some diversity to the look of the levels as well, before it's released.

My next move is to release another demo in January for testing and feedback. Then it will go closed beta, and hopefully ready in the middle of 2017.

I tried your previous demo a while ago and it was already fun to play. The graphics are good, but there's probably still some room for improvement. Unfortunately my Steam account is not eligible for voting (because I haven't spent any money yet) so I can't support your game directly.
Good luck for your game - it doesn't look easy to get elected on that platform.

I admire your perseverance over the years. Would love to have had same myself to write a game.
It is difficult to judge your game as games bore me very quickly although writing one would have been fun.

Thanks @St_W and @BasicCoder2.

So far the Greenlight campaign appears to be doing ok, not great but not terrible. Enough that it feels like it has chance if I push some more. Though, it's too early to call it at this point.

Done ;-)

Awesome to see a freebasic game there. Hoping to do the same in a not-too distant future.

Cheers,
Mike

I could be in favor for that. Something like 250 USD for free games, up to 2500 USD for 50 USD priced games. With the fee covering BASIC quality control and listing, if the game satisfy it. Inflation of games on any sort of platform is not helping anyone.

Yeah, I'm not sure about the new changes with Steam Direct. I could afford a couple hundred, but not a couple thousand.

Anyway, the game's not close to being greenlit yet. Some of that's my fault. I haven't been doing enough to spread the word. I've been working on the game, hoping to get another demo out by March, and then spending more efforts on marketing. Maybe I'll need to jump on that sooner though, with the news.

I've noticed the colors in the game get repetitive.
Have you considered having the nice happy light/green near the begging of the adventure but as he progresses it gets darker with more dead looking grass and plants to add to the darkening mood as he approaches the frogs.

I'm working on more variety. There are several areas that will have their own theme, though it doesn't get "darker" so to speak.

Nice. Different environments is definitely a good way to break the repetition. I've been experimenting with a platformer and a RTS. I've realized that graphics is one of the hardest parts as well as being very time consuming. It inspires me to see a FreeBasic game nearing completion. Best of luck on this Ecxjoe! I feel this is the return of game dev in FreeBasic.
