Re: Help using On...Goto and Select Case and SUB needed

As discussed on the other tread, it is recommended to use a loop, instead of GoTo (and all the labels needed). It is what gave all BASIC's a bad reputation, because it tends to lead to *spaghetti code*. A way to make the code better readable is: to use indentation as below: Dim choice As Long ' a 32...

Re: Using string function

But my "problem" with being "overwhelmed" by Function and Declare is more a simple matter of having to understand what they are and what they are used for. OK, look at something simple to start with: ' program to display current time (on console, no graphics) Locate 1, 72 ' righ...

Re: Using string function

I must confess that I feel a bit overwhelmed and that the whole concept of declaring functions ... The concept is easy to understand, if you consider the fact that FB's (short for FreeBASIC) compiler does only one pass (single pass compiler). Therefore, whenever you are calling the Sub/Function (in...

Re: Using string function

A simple example to show two methods, to declare the same Function (or Sub for that matter): 1) with identifiers: Declare Function Add2(ByVal df1 As Double, ByVal df2 As Double) As Double 2) without identifiers: Declare Function Add2(ByVal As Double, ByVal As Double) As Double They are one and the s...

Re: ScreenRes + Width display or compiler problem

Well, the two Compilers have different (default) backends:
FBC 32 - ASSEMBLY (-gen GAS)
FBC 64 - GCC (-gen GCC)
(on Windows "standalone" mode), this may be a reason, for differing behavior.

Re: Streaming audio

A question: my original code would compile, if you replace all the "dword" with "unsigned integer"? No, I'd use ULong instead, because we are dealing with a "unsigned 32-bit integer", aka: C's UINT, which in FB, is ULong (fixed data type = 32-bit) on all platforms: 32/...

Re: Iif compile-time return value

As a new IIf example, I'd propose: ' IIF_Test01.bas -- 2017-09-05, MrSwiss Dim As Boolean flg ' requires: FBC >= 1.04.0 32/64-bit versions ' IIF() can be used, to display a Boolean any way you want it ... ' instead of: UCase(Str(flg)), for all upper case, which seems 'bulky' ' and, still not giving ...

??? I don't have that option: WinFBE 1.5.2.
Maybe the path to Paul's new .exe's, was incorrect (Git 1.5.2 package)?

Re: WinFBE FreeBASIC Editor for Windows (Updated September 4, 2017)

What exactly is the problem with the header? I can fix it and submit it. For this issue, it's already fixed (by PaulSquires). The problematic header is "windowsx.bi", the fixed one is "windowsxx.bi" -- NOTE: [xx] twice, renamed. Its all part of WinFBE / CWindow combination (Paul...
